FAQs

What is Child Care Subsidy?

Child Care Subsidy is a payment from the Australian Government that helps you with the cost of your childcare.

Who can get Child Care Subsidy?

You can get Child Care Subsidy if you are a parent, foster parent or grandparent with a child in your care who is attending childcare services approved by, or registered with the Government.

You can get Child Care Subsidy if:

  • you have a child in your care who meets the immunisation requirements [1] (or have an exemption)
  • you or your partner (if you have one) meet residency requirement [2] (or have an exemption)
  • your child attends approved [3] or registered care [4] and you have the ability to pay for the cost of your child care
  • you meet the income test

How much child Care Subsidy can I get?

The amount you get depends on your circumstances:

  • the type of care you use (approved or registered)
  • your income
  • the amount of care you use
  • the reason you are using care and
  • the number of children you have care

How do places get filled?

When filling vacant places, we fill our places according to the following priorities:
Priority 1: a child at risk of serious abuse or neglect.
Priority 2: a child of a single parent who satisfies, or of parents who both satisfy the work, training, study test.
Priority 3: any other child.
Within these main Priority categories, priority should also be given to children in:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families
  • Families which include a disabled person
  • Families on lower incomes
  • Families from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
  • Socially isolated families
  • Single parent families

WWEYLC also has internal priority of access principles that reflect priority for five days per week care, children of people working at WWEYLC; siblings of children already in care and children in part-week care who are moving to full-time care.

What if my child is absent? Do I still pay? Do I need to notify you?

Absent days are still charged at the same rate as regular care days and you will still receive your Child Care Subsidy entitlement for up to 42 absences per financial year. This includes public holidays throughout the year.
